Reiki And You
While on a meditation retreat on Mount Kurama, Dr. Mikao Usui experienced a profound revelation. Following this, he developed the Usui Reiki Healing Method, which he taught throughout Japan.
Dr. Usui expounded five basic principles which he urged his students to follow. He believed that gratitude forms the basis for a healthy and happy life. The principles are as follows:
Just for today do not worry.
Just for today do not anger.
Honour your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Love and respect every living thing.
Reiki is taught in three forms or degrees. In the First Degree the student is initiated to the Reiki system of healing and learns to use Reiki on himself and others. The First Degree is also referred to as Touch Reiki and requires physical contact for the healing to be transmitted.
Second Degree teaches energy symbols that transcend time and space and sets the groundwork for emotional and mental healing. This means that healing can be sent to anyone, anyplace and also be directed towards healing events in the past. Third Degree Reiki focuses on preparing the initiate to train students in the art of transmitting initiations, enabling him to attune others.
A simple and easy to use technique, Reiki found many takers in the West where it was introduced by Mrs. Takata, and has steadily grown to be one of the most sought after techniques of alternative healing. It focuses on transferring Universal Life Force Healing Energy from the Universe that is drawn by the medium or practitioner, which is then directed to the patient.
Reiki reduces stress, induces relaxation and stimulates the bodys’ own healing; accounting for an overall physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being, while restoring the body’s energy balance. Having no religious basis and no side effects, Reiki can be used effectively on children as well as plants and animals.
Today, more and more hospitals are offering Reiki therapy to their patients in conjunction with traditional medicine. Research shows a faster recovery time and a positive attitude with patients treated with Reiki healing. Anyone can learn, teach and receive healing. The only prerequisite is the patient’s desire to heal.
